The Story
Read aloud the story in Revelation 19:11-16.
Discussion Ideas
- When John was on the Isle of Patmos, the Lord opened his spiritual eyes and showed him many visions.
- In this vision, John saw a white horse. Who was riding the horse? (The Lord) Imagine seeing the Lord on a white horse!
- The Lord is given three names in this story. What is the first one? (Faithful and True) We are told that the Lord was ready to judge and make war against what is evil.
- His eyes were like a flame of fire, picturing His deep love for all people. What did He have on His head? (Many crowns) He is the King of Kings.
- He was also called The Word of God and Lord of Lords. This vision of the Lord riding on a white horse symbolizes the Lord opening the Word so its inner meaning can be understood.
- Horses are beautiful, powerful animals. The Lord wants all of us to learn to “ride white horses” by reading the Lord’s Word and developing a spiritual understanding of His truth.
- John also saw a sharp sword coming from the Lord’s mouth. This pictures the Divine truth—ready to conquer evil and falsity. The Lord wants to protect people and lead them to heaven.
- Having revealed the inner meaning of the Word, the Lord is also establishing a New Church with all who acknowledge Him, learn the truths from His Word, and then do them. All people are invited to be a part of this New Church and to follow the Lord on white horses, as the host of angels did in John’s vision.
