Students think of good principles to live by from the Word, write them on strips of paper or fabric, and weave them together to create a 'mat' of teachings on which to rest their spiritual lives.
Children think of ideas from the Word they would like to act on, write or draw them in seed outlines, cut them apart and put them into a 'bag' for sowing in their lives.
Images and slogans are great ways to encapsulate big ideas. This activity invites students to transform the ninth commandment, “ You shall not covet”, into a slogan and/or a picture to decorate a paper T-shirt.
When we break one commandment we compromise all the commandments in ourselves. If we work on one, we strengthen them all. Students identify pairs of commandments for which they can see links and construct a hexahedron (a six-sided figure) to show how the commandments are connected.
Children make a model of the golden calf on a plate and decorate it with macaroni “earrings” to show that the children of Israel stopped listening to the Lord.
